Start training as a MAX operator IMMEDIATELY. As the first external opening to the public, this is a new and unique opportunity to get in the operator’s seat faster than ever! Historically, becoming a Light Rail Vehicle Operator required experience as a bus driver first. It's never been easier to start your career as a rail operator!
Becoming a MAX operator requires extensive training. During the paid 12-week training period, you’ll become an expert on operating MAX on each of TriMet’s five light rail lines. The course curriculum consists of lecture and interactive learning with workbooks, procedural manuals and presentation modules.
Hands-on field training will include operating in the rail yards and on the rail system. Some learning will take place using our virtual reality program, which simulates scenarios you may encounter as an operator.
